Our Family Wedding

"Our Family Wedding" is a classic spin on the "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" type of film. Years after the classic hit "Guess Who," Fox Searchlight takes us on a ride through the ups and downs of a shotgun inter-racial wedding. Miguel Ramirez (Carlos Mencia) and Brad Boyd (Forrest Whitaker) are loving fathers with a vision for their children's' futures which include mates of the same race. Lucia Ramirez (America Ferrera) and Marcus Boyd (Lance Gross) have a more modern view on their relationship. When their father's chance encounter turns out rocky the film takes our bride and groom-to-be on a turbulent start to their wedding planning and road to marital bliss.

At first glance this film may be recognized as another comedy of out of control fathers losing their children to true-love. Well it is. But what this film has that others lack, is excellent growth of character both individually and between great actors, Mencia and Whitaker. These two take this genre and their characters to new levels of enjoyment. They are a dream team and it is so fun to watch their characters develop and grow on screen.
